Louise Erdrich kicks ass

I just finished reading "Tracks", her third novel. Louise, you break my heart with your gorgeous words. Louise, can I come over while you are writing and just watch the air around you to see what you conjure up? Louise, thank you, girl, thank you cause you got me back into the book I had abandoned and I am working the language. It's hard Louise. No one really cares about writing--at least that's how I feel right now. There's blood on my keyboard. I want to be like you, Louise. Seriously. Can I come over?

Yorkshire puddin'

I think I'm going to head up to Yorkshire to see the home of the Brontes. (You know, Charlotte, Emily, Anne and the nutty brother) Yorkshire in January. I have a feeling there won't be another tourist in sight. I have to buy some cold weather clothes. Brilliant!

Raider baby blanket

I'm totally excited to give this baby blanket to some friends who are expecting in January. They're big Raider fans and I expect the baby will be as well. At any rate, this will keep him safe during those tense moments when the crowd gets unruly. "Don't hurt the kid! Can't you see he's swaddled in a Raider's baby blanket?"

moors, possibly
beer

So all of a sudden, I write Science Fiction

I think I'm at the start of a new novel (having never published any novels, mind you. Maybe the first two were learners.) I feel a little exhausted by that. Now i KNOW how damn long it takes and how much work its is and how you can't see very far ahead, you're squinting into the story trying to understand what the characters are mouthing to you. And now I know about the pesky pages and how they get so confusing, and where did I put that one scene? Now I know how physical it all is, how much like laying pipe, as one teacher told me. It's work. There's no other word for it.

Halloween

was fun. Cali and I went to the party to benefit the Center. There was a feeling of near debauchery that does not exist in straight culture Sandy Eggo. This was one of my favorite costumes.
As we watched the band play, Cali noticed a guy dancing on his own in the clearing in front of the stage. "Have you ever noticed," she said, "that there is one Dancing Guy at every show?"
"Maybe its always the same guy." I said. We laughed but not maliciously. He was kind of a dear little fellow and he had rhythm. I told Cali to go dance with him and I'd take her picture and to my great surprise, she did.
